Looking at securing a long-term career in the Building industry?  Your apprenticeship is the start of a professional careerWe have positions available for 3rd year cabinet makers looking to continue their cabinet making apprenticeship.Wage Award: National wage AwardMode: Full time = 38 hours per weekPeriod of Apprenticeship: up to 4 YearsTraining: Certificate III Location: Gold CoastDESCRIPTION: Carry out tasks related to the building, construction and joinery trades, under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson/instructor and consistent with apprenticeship year level. Attend off the job trade school to complete learning and assessment outcomes required for a cabinet making apprenticeship.DUTIES:Carry out construction, assembly, alteration of custom built commercial and traditional style furniture and also the manufacture and installation of fitted furniture such as kitchens and bathrooms, movie/theatre fit-outs and high end home theatre fit-outs.Use glue, dowels, nails and screws to join parts together to form completed units. FinallyTrim and sand joints in preparation towards a finished product.Instillation/fitting of cabinets, cupboards and modular units, possibly for single and multi-storey domestic, commercial and industrial environmentsRead and working from, plans and specificationsUse hand tools, e.g. hammers, chisels, hand saws, screwdrivers, measuring tapes and levelling devices etc.Use hand and power tools, e.g. hammer, chisel, electric/battery drills, power saws, routers, sanders, planners, laser levelling devices, pneumatic (air) tools, e.g. nail gunsOperate workshop equipment, e.g. static machines, band saws, docking saws, thicknessers, routers, bench grinders, etc.Use safe and appropriate means to access (both internal and external) for building and construction sites and trade school environmentsFollow appropriate safety practices when using ladders, other access ways, handrails, barriers, scaffolding and mechanical lifts (trained/licensed users only)Follow established policies and procedures for Protective Personal Apparel (PPE) use and the use or non-use of devices such as mobile phone in workplace and training environmentsFollow appropriate manual handling techniques for manual tasks including lifting and moving itemsFollow safety and environmental practices for handling building products, fluids and waste productsComplete appropriate documentation and recording information on computerised programsCarry out the theory and practical assessment tasks in a building site/training centreFollow written and verbal instructions in workplace and trade school environmentsCommunicate and interact with others in workplace and trade school environments, may include customer interactionRead and interpret various types of construction/architectural diagramsFollow HIA APPRENTICES induction processes and codes of conduct.ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:A willingness to develop skills and knowledge in this tradePhysical fitness and the ability to undertake manual labour for extended periodsBe a safe confident workerWillingness to travelCI Card (White Card) (or be willing to obtain prior to starting)Enjoy practical and manual workAbility to follow instructions and communicate effectivelyMinimum of year 10 schoolingA SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL IDEALLY:Certificate II/ Pre-App in Building & ConstructionDomestic building experience / exposure to a jobsiteBe reliable, enthusiastic and willing to work as part of a team.Have a car and licence is generally required due to changing sites.WHO ARE HIA APPRENTICES?HIA Apprentices are leaders in the selection, management and training of apprentices in the domestic building industry.
